As requested by AFRICOM, USAMRU-E led AFRICOM's first Mental Health Advisory Team (MHAT). LTC Sipos (team lead), USAMRU-E Commander, Dr. Adler (USAMRU-E) and Dr. Riviere (Military Psychiatry Branch, WRAIR), conducted a site visit to Camp Lemonnier, Djibouti (30 NOV to 3 DEC 11) to identify behavioral health and behavioral health resourcing issues.

Following in-briefs with RADM Franken, Commander, Combined Joint Task Force-Horn of Africa (CJTF-HOA), CAPT Greenhalgh, CJTF-HOA Surgeon, and Camp Lemonnier leadership, the team conducted focus groups with enlisted Service Members and officers across the Air Force, Army, Marine Corps, and Navy. The team also met with medical providers, chaplains, the Camp Safety Officer, the Medical Evacuations Officer, and the Director of the Fleet and Family Support Center. The results are being used to develop a survey that targets issues relevant to Service Members at Camp Lemonnier and in other sites across Africa. USAMRU-E will administer the survey in JAN/FEB 2012 and plan to outbrief results shortly thereafter.
